Ideas for Beginning an InterFaith Ministry
Why would this be a matter of interest to you? Have you been reading about other faiths? Have you been to an Immersion Week or Weekend? Have you been invited to visit with persons of another faith? I will list for you a number of ways to begin working in interfaith:
- Find one person of another faith and ask if you could talk with them. A few minutes over coffee or tea or water can do wonders.
- Invite a qualified person of another faith to speak with a group in your church or religious organization. (If this is not available, invite friends to your home to hear a presentation by a person of another faith.)
- Identify interfaith groups in your community and join one of them.
- Seek to introduce a study of other faiths to persons that you know. Whether a church group, fellowship group, or just a group of friends, agreed to read a book on another religion and talk about it.
- Begin a class in your church or religious group to awaken interest and impart knowledge.
- Prepare yourself to lead a discussion group on another faith.
- Bring a group of your friends to Atlanta, GA to participate in an Immersion Week or Weekend. This will jump-start interest in your group.
- Attend one of the classes directed by The InterFaith Community Institute.
- Telephone or write to the InterFaith Community Institute, 669 East Ave. SE, Atlanta, GA 30316 and talk to a staff member about your desire. Phone 404 622 3399 or 404 906 7109.
- Visit with the leaders of other faiths (Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, Vedanta, or Buddhist) and inquire about ways that the faiths in your community are working together.
